Lunch Box Stars - Part 2

Reusable Snack Bags

One of my favorite recent additions to the lunch and snack scene are reusable cloth bags. Whether you are trying to be greener or save money, they are a convenient and snazzy way to pack your kids snacks or lunch.  Another plus is that they don't take up much room in your child’s lunch box and are easy for little hands to open.

There are many different versions of these baggies, they come in a variety of fun patterns and sizes, and can usually be washed by hand or thrown in the washing machine. If you are particularly crafty, you could probably even make your own.

What can you put into these baggies? You can pack almost anything that you could put into a plastic zip lock, except food that is too liquidy or fragile (maybe skip the watermelon chunks and raspberries).  Here are some healthful ideas:

  • Grapes, apple slices, dried fruit, applesauce containers
  • Carrot sticks, sliced peppers, sliced cucumbers, blanched snap peas, edamame
  • Pretzels, goldfish, crackers, granola, trail mix
  • Small yogurt containers, yogurt tubes, cheese, cheese and crackers
  • Nuts, sunflower seeds, almond butter crackers
  • Cookies, small muffins, baked goods
  • Sandwiches

The larger sized bags are even roomie and durable enough to tote an array of snacks or lunch time treats, making them equivalent to a mini a lunch box or brown bag. This is perfect for preschoolers who just need to bring snacks for school. They are also great for diaper bag organization.
